Picnicking in the English summer

Enjoying a picnic at the heart of Noah's birthday party the other day got me thinking about the great British tradition of picnicking and how solid a place it holds in our summertime. Us Brits love a picnic, whether as a fully blown festivity with bunting, banners and tents, or as a simple meal in the garden...or balcony in our case!
When I think of my ideal picnic, I am reminded of a bygone age (Downton Abbey style!) where a whole day was made of it. Off to the grassy hills the crowd would go where there would be parasols and canopies, arrays of beautiful sandwiches and freshly made lemonades. The sun would be shining and croquet would be played as people relaxed and unwound from the busyness of life. The birds would be singing and the bees would be buzzing and for a few moments, time would seem to stand still!

I thought it would be fun to show you where I found some bits and pieces to help us with Noah's party, and a few more that would certainly be on my wish list for next time!

Firstly, I headed over to Party Pieces, which is the company owned by the family of the Duchess of Cambridge. They have a great website which covers just about every aspect needed for creating a fun-filled party-whatever the occasion! I bought paper plates, plastic cutlery, napkins, cups and straws to name a few!

Next, I had a look at the John Lewis website. They always have an array of accessories for picnics and camping during the summer and I was not disappointed! From top, left to right: Oily rag daisychain picnic rug, £49.50, Orla Kiely Melamine beaker, £5.00, Joules enamel mug, £12.00, Joules cool bag, £20.

Sirius Aura lantern, £28.00, Strawberry and cream bell tent, The Glam Camping Company,£510, Happy Jackson snack boxes, £10.95, Outdoor LED lights, £35,

Not On The Highstreet also had some cute pieces that would glam up any picnic gathering. From top, left to right: Barbecue tool set, £34.95, Drinks bucket, £45.00, Willow picnic hamper, £89.00, Lace cotton bunting, £8.99.

Happy picnicking everybody!
Love Bunty
