Taking care of the Neighbours

When we got home last night, it was pretty late and both Eddy and myself were exhausted from travelling all day. We had been down to visit our new little niece Joanna (who is a dream!) and with all the emotions and celebrations, when we finally got through our own front door, with Noah in arms, we were all ready to crash!

Having been away for a couple of weeks now, we had a rather large collection of post waiting for us and one of our letters was a typed note from a neighbour. We have been gradually getting to know him over the last couple of months and we have really enjoyed becoming more familiar with the people around us.
Anyway, he kindly asked if we would water his plants while he and his wife are on holiday and, obviously, we were only too delighted to help!

It got me thinking about our 'neighbourly' relationships and how often/easy it is to ignore the people around us. We can get so caught up in our own lives and routines that we forget so many people are lonely and just in need of a friend at the end of the day, a conversation in passing, or simply a smile!
There are so many ways we can reach out to our neighbours and befriend people we may never have even known we would get along so well with! I love that old American tradition of baking pies for the new neighbour and I think us Brits would do well to take a leaf out of such a generous attitude.

Do you guys have a relationship with your neighbours? If not, perhaps take a moment this weekend to do something charitable for them! You might just be surprised!
